YAY! I am now officially the Business Director of the Circus Project (www.thecircusproject.org) I had my interview today, and met the youth who are training to be circus performers and teachers. And a couple hours later, the founder called, said the youth loved me, that she thought it was a great interview, and wanted to offer me the job! FINALLY, being a freaky queer pays off! AAAND i have the best "how i got my job" story ever (see previous post).
I win.

Friday night, I was about the read a dirty story i had written at the monthly Dirty Queer open mic night, when i realized the paper i had printed it on was a business-school article, complete with a graph. I mentioned to the audience that i just finished my MBA, and joked that they should "enjoy this graph about Socially Responsible Investing while I read porn." After my reading, a non-profit organization made a presentation about their current programming, and approached me afterwards, telling me they're hiring for a business manager and that I should apply!
Pornography.... apparently a valid form of job-searching! I have an interview tomorrow. I really hope I get the position, one because it sounds awesome (its an organization dedicated to teaching at-risk youth circus & performance skills) and two, because it would pretty much be the best/gayest "how i found a job" story ever. I win.

I just got home, late last night from my whirlwind trip... IDKE followed by a week in Chicago. I had a job interview this morning, and now i'm putting in my shift at the box office. No sleep for the wicked. I'm thinking about going to SF this weekend 'cause i have a ride, but maybe i'm crazy for even considering it. It'll depend on a few factors that shape out in the next couple days.
I feel like i have a ton of shit to unpack, both literally and figuratively. Austin is interested in doing Freakshow-a-Go-Go this year, and after my initial "no, its my baby" protectiveness, i think it might actually be an amazing idea. And then the following year perhaps we can bring it back to Portland. Or keep it traveling. Since the Great Big in DC is ending, it'd be nice to have a big drag king ish show every year. And it would be pretty amazing if it kept going, a feeling of wow, i started something important and awesome. I'm also getting pretty psyched about starting a queer dance company. I got SO much amazing validation about what I choreographed for our IDKE piece, it helps put a fire under my ass and give me added confidence in this new creative endeavor. I had some time to flesh out the details and structure, and am looking forward to putting it in motion. And, with this job interview, i'm re-inspired in my job search. So, i need to like, take a really long nap, and then re-dedicate myself to getting my shit together here in Portland.

Fall is coming. Lately i've been appreciating the beauty surrounding me. I am in love with Portland and my queer family here. I've gotten a little lost in crushville with this beautiful boy who inspires and challenges me in the best ways imaginable. I have a plethora of visions for my future and I'm waiting to see which direction the universe will take me; I'm anxious and excited to see things manifest. I'm ramping up for a plethora of traveling and performance plans in the future. Fall will be filled with reading and dancing and singing and creating and traveling and crushing and cooking and working and generally making amazing shit happen. Bring it on.

this week, i'm feeling the change of pace, the lack of structure in my life. In the next couple weeks i should have at least a bit MORE structure (once i set up my final class of my MBA) but mostly, i'm applying for jobs and working on my own projects, and picking up a few shifts here and there at Center Stage to keep at least a bit of money rolling in the right direction.
I see some exciting things on the horizon, but perhaps they are just a mirage, its so hard to tell sometimes. Maybe you just gotta keep walking in their direction until you're close enough to know for sure.

tonight was the Meet and Greet for Freakshow-a-Go-Go. Producing this show has been so much work and stress. But tonight made me remember why we're doing it. We've been busting our asses on this forever and its finally happening! Its amazing to have all these brilliant, hot, fabulous performers from all over the country here in Portland. I can't wait to blow people's minds tomorrow.

| Winter Quarter Conundrum. |

Winter Quarter starts tomorrow. I kicked ass last quarter 'cause it was uber structured, i had classes m-w and then worked th & friday. This quarter will be the complete opposite which makes me very nervous. I only have one traditional meets every week on campus sorta class, which isn't even in the business school, it's a nonprofit management course. Then I'm taking an online marketing class on advertising and branding, doing a weekend "leadership immersion" course, and a team business project. I'll have a lot of "free" ish time that i need to be efficient with 'cause i'll have a lot of shit to get done. But knowing myself, if i have too much "free" time i become extremely inefficient. I also need to structure my GA position so i can make sure to get work done with that, and then arrange my PCS schedule around all of this.
My biggest problem is getting up in the morning if i dont have a commitment. Which is also why last quarter was great. Every day of the week i had something i needed to pry my ass out of bed for. Without physical classes, I'm afraid i'll sleep until noon every day and not get anything done. Maybe i need to somehow make some morning commitments. Any suggestions from the peanut gallery? I want to set up a routine right away so i dont get into bad habits.
